Healthy Moong Dal Dosa
Here's a recipe for Moong Dal Dosa (also known as Pesarattu), a nutritious and delicious variation of dosa made with green gram (moong dal):
Ingredients :
- 1 cup green moong dal (green gram)
- 2 tablespoons rice (optional, for added crispiness)
- 1-inch piece of ginger
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1 small onion, finely chopped (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Water, as needed
- Oil or ghee, for cooking
Instructions :
1. Soaking:
- Wash the moong dal and rice (if using) thoroughly.
- Soak them in enough water for 4-6 hours or overnight.
2. Grinding:
- Drain the soaked dal and rice.
- In a blender, add the soaked moong dal and rice, ginger, green chilies, and some water. Grind to a smooth batter. The consistency should be similar to regular dosa batter - neither too thick nor too thin.
- Add salt to taste and mix well.
3. Fermentation (optional):
- You can use the batter immediately, but if you prefer a slightly fermented flavor, let the batter rest for 2-3 hours in a warm place.
4. Preparing the Dosa:
- Heat a non-stick tawa or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, pour a ladleful of batter onto the center of the tawa and spread it out in a circular motion to form a thin dosa.
- Drizzle a little oil or ghee around the edges and on top of the dosa.
- If using, sprinkle finely chopped onions on top of the dosa immediately after spreading the batter.
- Cook until the edges start to lift, and the bottom turns golden brown and crispy.
- Flip the dosa and cook for another minute or until the other side is cooked.
5. Serving:
- Serve the moong dal dosa hot with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, or sambar.
Enjoy your healthy and tasty Moong Dal Dosa!
